Counselling & Psychotherapy
Counselling sessions are held in Northgate, Crawley in a safe and understanding environment. Here, I provide a supportive and confidential space for our sessions. Together we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and also patterns of behaviour.
Transactional Analysis (TA) is my main modality of psychotherapy. TA lends itself very well to our work together. Additionally, it allows us to focus on helping you understand how experiences that came before have shaped your life today. Your early relationships influence the way you think, feel, and interact with others. Together we will explore the links between then and now with the aim of creating change and aiding healing.
TA helps not only the symptoms you are experiencing now, but also the underlying causes. As a result, you can move forward with more autonomy.
Whether you are completely new to therapy or have had therapy before, your journey can begin or deepen here.
Awareness & Working Somatically
Your increased awareness can help you to recognise unhelpful patterns and develop more authentic communication. This, in turn, can help you to make choices that support your emotional wellbeing and personal growth.
Working somatically with body sensations and working creatively can be part of our work together too. Firstly, this is a deeper way of working with your earliest, non-verbal parts that hold somatic memory. Secondly, archaic wounds, trauma, unmet needs, defenses and beliefs can be reached by working somatically.
Counselling and psychotherapy offer the opportunity to reconnect with your true self. This can include improving your current and future relationships and creating lasting change. Whether you’re facing anxiety, low mood, conflict, or a sense of being stuck, counselling can help you move forward.
Sessions are 50 minutes in duration. They are available in person and online, offering flexibility, privacy, and a pace that suits your needs.

What is Transactional Analysis?
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a form of psychotherapy that helps you understand yourself and your relationships. It provides a comprehensive way for us to work together. We can explore how you communicate, think, feel and behave and why. It’s based on the idea that we all develop patterns of relating to others shaped by early life experiences. These patterns can sometimes limit our wellbeing or personal growth.
In TA, we work together to recognise these patterns and understand how they influence your daily life. By becoming more aware of the different parts of yourself — often referred to as the Parent, Adult, and Child states — you can begin to make conscious, healthier choices in how you think together with how you feel, and respond.
What is the aim of Transactional Analysis?
The aim of TA therapy is to help you build self-awareness together with self-compassion, improve relationships, and gain a stronger sense of autonomy and confidence. It is a collaborative process that encourages understanding, growth, and also lasting change.
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling is usually shorter term work. It generally centres around strengthening your current resources to help you cope better with a short-term challenge. A change like a divorce, recent bereavement, or change in health or circumstance, are examples of why you might come into counselling.
Counselling can give you great tools to cope better with your current, difficult situation whereas psychotherapy lends itself itself to longer term therapy. It involves relatively deeper work because it addresses issues at the root cause. It can unearth beliefs created in childhood or that you may not know you have. These beliefs can cause you to think, feel or behave in ways that you do not understand or that are self-destructive.
Examples of beliefs…
- I’m not enough – so consequently I try all the time
- I can’t get my needs met around others – therefore I don’t turn to others
- I’m only acceptable to myself and others if I do everything perfectly / people please / am always trying really hard – and so I’m struggling with burnout, resentment and anxiety
How can experiences in childhood impact me now?
Limiting albeit it real-feeling beliefs such as those mentioned above can sit beneath our anxieties and rule how we think, feel and behave. Along with these kinds of beliefs, unmet developmental needs from childhood may also surface. Unmet needs tend to look (in adulthood) for ways to be met. This can sometimes cause distressing patterns in behaviours that might not make much sense to you. In fact, you may experience frustration, shame or helplessness because you wish you didn’t feel compelled to carry out certain behaviours. Increasing awareness can help prevent them from playing out in ways that are unhealthy for you. Meeting these unmet needs differently can help you to leave behind that tug-of-war or ill-ease feeling inside. Moreover, it can also help you to feel more content, more whole, and more in control of your life. It can lead to more love, joy and peace in your life.
Symptoms usually explored with a psycho-therapeutic approach:
Anxiety
Low self-esteem
Depression
Addiction
Eating disorders
Self-harm
Relationship and trust issues
Repeating patterns of behaviour
You do not need to choose between counselling and psychotherapy as I work using both, depending on your needs. Sometimes a little of both is required simultaneously and there is no difference in rates.
Next Steps…
If you think you might like to start sessions, we can schedule a call together, allowing for up to 15 minutes. This will help you to get a feel for who you might be seeing and to help you to choose if this is the right next step for you. You can text, email, call or use the contact form in order to arrange a call together. You can choose either a phone call or a zoom session for our initial chat.
The therapeutic relationship is fundamental to the outcome of therapy so it is important that you feel comfortable.
If you decide you would like to start sessions, the next step is setting a date. I would then also email you all the information you need before your first session.
