FAQ- Rebirthing - Conscious Connected Breathwork
What is Rebirthing - Conscious Connected Breathwork?
Rebirthing – Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB) is a gentle yet powerful breathing technique with no pauses between the inhale and the exhale. This is known as a connected or circular breath. Guided by a Breath worker, this practice can alter your state of consciousness which, in turn, allows emotional release and allow your body to heal using it’s own intuition. CCB is a natural way to access deeper parts of yourself to promote awareness, relaxation and healing.
How does it work?
The breathing technique gently activates the body’s innate healing processes. It can calm the nervous system, expand self-awareness, release held tension and emotion and increase energy and mental clarity. Safety is often created in the body to allow unprocessed emotion to surface in a safe environment.
What happens during a session?
At the start of the first session we will talk about where you are at now and take a brief history. I will then demonstrate the breath technique.
Once you are laying comfortably, you will be guided through a body scan meditation that will lead into the active breath phase. You will receive guidance throughout until the last phase of integration. There will be little to no guidance as you rest and integrate your experience. Afterwards you can either journal or talk your experience through with me. As a level 6 psycho-therapeutic counsellor (trauma informed) we can make sense of your experience together.

What might I feel or experience?
Everyone’s experience is completely unique, and each session or ‘breathe’ can take on a different quality. Warmth, tingling, a sense of being ‘everywhere and nowhere’ at the same time, a sense of dropping into your body, tears, laughter, deep peace, vivid insights, unexpected images, waves of emotion, feeling clear are all possibilities.
You can also focus on a younger self or chronic pain to explore these somatic states. All sensations are your body’s way of releasing and rebalancing.
How much are CCB sessions?
You may find £80 per hour is quite standard currently. Until I finalise my qualification with Air School of Breathwork my sessions will be £30 per 1.5h session. Rates will increase in November 2026 on completion of the 2 year diploma however, if you have started sessions before this period, we can discuss rate increases to help ensure your personal journey isn’t disrupted.
Will I hyperventilate?
No, conscious connected breathwork with Milton Minds does not include hyperventilation. It is a gentle yet powerful practice. You will remain supported and aware throughout as you connect with your natural rhythms.
What are the benefits of CCB?
Benefits include:
Deep Relaxation and a sense of peace
Reduced stress, pain, tension and anxiety
Enhanced clarity of mind
Improved connection to body and emotion
Emotional release
A sense of wholeness
Are there any side effects?
During the active breath it is possible to experience tetany in one or both hands. This can feel like a contraction or hardening. It is temporary and if too unpleasant, simply taking a gentler breath will dissipate the sensation. This will be explained to you before the session so that you feel comfortable.
Is CBB safe and are there any contraindications?
This is a safe practice however it can bring up strong physical or emotional responses so it may not be suitable for everyone. I am a trained and qualified trauma-informed psycho-therapeutic counsellor so if you do get in touch with unprocessed trauma, you are in safe hands.
Contraindications include:
Severe mental disorders such as psychosis, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Heart disease and high blood pressure
First trimester pregnancy
Recent surgery and injury
Glaucoma
Severe asthma and COPD
What if strong emotions come up?
This is a safe space for strong emotions to come up and if they do, that is completely natural. CCB can bring suppressed feelings to the surface which can help you to begin to process and release them. You will be supported fully if you experience strong emotions. The process usually unfolds at your body’s own pace.
What should I bring / wear?
Bring a water bottle, journal and pen. Blankets and pillows will be provided but you are welcome to bring anything warm and comforting with you. Wear loose, comfortable clothing in layers and avoid turtlenecks or any clothing that restricts the neck area. Avoid heavy meals, alcohol and caffeine before your session.
How long is the session?
Sessions run from 1.5h to 2 hours. For existing counselling clients they can be incorporated into a 1-hour session.
How many sessions will I need?
Even one session can be powerful and beneficial however, a journey of ten sessions can really take you on a deep journey. They can run alongside therapy or be a stand-alone practice. You can opt for weekly, fortnightly or monthly sessions.
Can I have CCB sessions online?
Yes, online sessions work however there are some extra considerations. Do you have a quiet, suitable space? Do you have a stable internet connection? What plan works for you if you fall asleep?
What happens after a session?
After a CCB session you may feel relaxed, peaceful, grounded, clear minded, light, emotional. It is best to not have too much planned for straight after a session so that you can be with your experience. Journal writing or walking in nature can help you reflect and be with yourself in a gentle way.
Is CCB like therapy?
Firstly, CCB can be deeply therapeutic and has helped deepen the psycho-therapeutic journey when used alongside therapy sessions. Secondly, accessing and releasing what is stored in the body can beautifully compliment a talking therapy and therefore support emotional healing at a deep and also somatic way. You may have seen claims online such as ‘it is like having 100 therapy sessions’ because it can reach layers beyond your conscious or unconscious defence mechanisms and meet your deepest parts. Although this may be true, this is a sweeping claim, and it is best to come into a session and just let it unfold rather than setting expectations. Expectations can turn the session into a goal exercise and CCB is a being-mode practice. Additionally, s a psycho-therapeutic counsellor, those having CCB sessions with me can benefit from being held by a professional, trauma-informed practitioner.
